Vocal Proponent of Shallow, Nominally Christian Films Calls For Higher Standards For Film

“It’s time to end the compromise and raise our standards for the film industry,” father of twelve posted to his Facebook wall last Saturday. “Start saying “no” to the secular Hollywood industry and put your money behind shallow Christian films that reinforce the traditional stereotypes that real Christians everywhere fight against in real-life relationships with real people every day.

Secular filmmakers may create better stories and be better at asking deep questions about morality and worldview than pop Christian films but if they don’t specifically name the name of Jesus and feature at least one gospel presentation, their films can hardly be considered edifying to the culture and certainly not to the Christian community.

The damage nominally Christian films do to Christian efforts to show genuine love to their lost family, friends, and neighbors as real human beings and to pastors trying to accurately instruct their congregations in sound doctrine is nothing compared to the opportunity to reach millions with a theologically inaccurate, emotionally manipulative sermon deceptively disguised as a film. Because if one thing is clear from the pastoral epistles it’s that film is the God-ordained venue for evangelism. This is how the kingdom of God is advanced! It’s certainly not through the foolishness of preaching as some twist the scriptures to say.”

{ Back when one of my favorite websites, The Babylon Bee launched, I got inspired and wrote a series of satirical articles that I submitted in the hopes of getting them published on the site. This is one of them. None of them were accepted so I thought I’d share them on my own site instead. }
